We work with the Ombudsman and Aroturuki Tamariki - the Independent Children’s Monitor to make sure services are upholding children’s rights and working in ways that support their wellbeing. This includes government organisations such as Oranga Tamariki, Police, Health and Education organisations, iwi, hapū, and Māori social services as well as community non-government organisations. For example, services like early support, emergency help, care, youth justice and transitions out of care.
Another part of our role is to help mokopuna and their whānau to resolve issues to do with their rights and wellbeing. Usually, this will involve connecting them with appropriate agencies and organisations and providing information.
- For information about children’s rights, or if you, or someone you care about, is worried about a mokopuna or needing some help, you can call us on 0800 224 453 or email us on children@manamokopuna.org.nz
- To make a complaint about Oranga Tamariki and its care or custody providers, you can contact the Ombudsman on 0800 184 184 or visit www.nau-mai.nz
- Aroturuki Tamariki - the Independent Children’s Monitor checks that organisations supporting and working with children and young people, and their whānau and families, are meeting their needs and improving outcomes. It publishes its findings in reports. Email info@aroturuki.govt.nz
You are welcome to get in contact with any of us for help.
