Submission to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care on the Redress Process
The Office of the Children’s Commissioner provides the following set of recommendations for the redress system in response to the redress public engagement questions. We call on the Government to recognise the extent of harm caused to significant populations across many government agencies with wide-ranging implications multi-generationally. Now is the opportunity to take steps towards righting wrongs that have broken and harmed whānau across our country.
The OCC understands that an out-of-court redress system has the potential to acknowledge the harm, provide an apology and provide layers of redress to support whānau to be able to better manage the consequences and effects of abuse.
