Children's Monitoring Group quarterly reports
The Children’s Convention Monitoring Group (CMG) publishes quarterly reports to highlight current and emerging children’s rights issues in Aotearoa New Zealand. These reports provide a snapshot of progress, challenges and opportunities across a range of areas affecting tamariki and rangatahi, including safety and wellbeing, poverty, education, health, online harm, disability rights, youth justice and participation in decision-making.
The reports draw on government updates, community insights, research, media reporting and the voices of children and young people, alongside the recommendations made to Aotearoa New Zealand by UN human rights bodies.
The CMG’s quarterly reporting aims to strengthen accountability for children’s rights and support more coordinated action across government, communities and services. The reports identify where progress is being made, where greater attention is needed, and opportunities to better uphold the rights set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. They are intended to support advocacy, policy development and public understanding of the issues affecting mokopuna across Aotearoa New Zealand.
The CMG is brought together by Mana Mokopuna – Children’s Commissioner, whose job is to promote and advance children’s rights, including their rights under the Children’s Convention (under the Children’s Commissioner Act 2022).
The group includes permanent members from the Children’s Rights Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Kāhui Tika Tangata Human Rights Commission, Save the Children New Zealand, and UNICEF Aotearoa.
